Tall case brass dial clock, ca. 1790.

Cherry tall-case clock. The hood has an ogee molded broken-scroll pediment terminating in carved rosettes, a central brass ball-and-spire finial flanked by two identical finials on block plinths, line inlay, a molded arch above the door, turned colonettes with brass capitals at the front corners, and a glazed door with an astragal top. Waist with cove molding at the top and case door with line inlay and astragal top. Base with molding at the top and bottom and line inlay, supported on ogee bracket feet. 12-inch sheet brass engraved dial with roman hour numerals and arabic minute numerals, herringbone decoration around the perimeter, and the inscription "L & A Hutchins Concord" in the lunette. Inside the chapter ring are a seconds dial and a recessed date dial. Eight day, time and strike, rack and snail movement with two tin-cased weights, strap brass pendulum rod and brass-faced bob.

Levi Hutchins, with his brother Abel, was an apprentice to Simon Willard in Grafton, Mass. In 1786 the brothers moved to Concord, NH and formed a partnership.
